Recently, a team of application engineers from VPI visited the Shared Laboratory of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The purpose of this visit was to gain insights into the real-world performance of the SD-650 series high-vacuum magnetron sputtering systems, to collect feedback and suggestions from users, and to strengthen long-term collaboration with academic research teams.

As a trusted supplier of advanced scientific equipment, VPI has always prioritized user experience and evolving needs after equipment delivery. During the visit, engineers carefully inspected the system’s operating status, reviewed operation logs and maintenance records, and engaged in in-depth discussions with researchers to learn from their feedback and daily usage experiences.
The laboratory reported that since its installation, the SD-650MHT magnetron sputtering system has operated with excellent stability, with multiple sample batches completed every week. The system demonstrates fast vacuum pumping, reaching working pressure (~5×10^-3 Pa) in about 10 minutes, and an ultimate vacuum of 5×10^-5 Pa. Equipped with dual DC and RF power supplies (0–1000 W adjustable), the instrument supports a wide range of target materials, from metals and semiconductors to oxides and even refractory materials. Features such as a rotating substrate holder, water-cooled sputtering guns, and a combined vacuum gauge ensure uniform film deposition and long-term operational reliability. Researchers have highlighted the user-friendly interface, stable film quality, and reproducibility, which have significantly supported the preparation and delivery of samples across multiple research projects.
At the same time, laboratory faculty raised valuable questions, such as how to further optimize deposition rates, how to improve target replacement and calibration, and how to extend the service life of the system. VPI engineers provided detailed explanations and shared best practices, including optimizing gas pressure and power to enhance film density, and leveraging adjustable vacuum and sputtering power settings to achieve complex multilayer film structures. These exchanges not only addressed practical concerns but also deepened mutual trust between VPI and the research team.

VPI has consistently upheld the philosophy of “long-term cooperation and attentive service”, having established partnerships with more than 2,000 universities and research institutes across China, and delivering over 3,000 vacuum coating systems to date. Through a comprehensive service network—including installation training, regular follow-up visits, and remote technical support—VPI ensures ongoing reliability for its users. From VPI’s perspective, purchasing equipment is not the end of cooperation but rather the starting point of a long-term partnership, where both technical excellence and human-centered service are equally essential.
This routine visit not only resolved technical issues encountered by the laboratory but also reinforced the trust and collaboration between VPI and its users. Looking ahead, VPI will continue to take technology as its foundation and service as its bridge, working hand-in-hand with researchers to embrace new challenges and deliver greater innovations. VPI remains committed to being the most reliable partner on the scientific journey, advancing the development and breakthroughs of vacuum coating technology together with its users.
